Day by Day

Day 2

Gregor Aug 10, 2008

Well, all the love and prayers and such have seemed to have had a positive effect. If that means you, then we are most grateful. The improvement in Arrowen (and Nicole and I) was significant on day 2.

While Arrowen was sleeping and approching her first complete day a group of shamans in England were performing a distant healing ritual on her. I spent a lot of time giving her Reiki and my own pre-Reiki healing stylins during the day as well. And I know that her Grandmother Mazzo Baggins was also doing her mojo too. She was more alert and pink. An orthopedic doctor stopped by to have a look at her xrays and felt that her club foot (left side) and finger flexion (most pronounced on her index fingers) were remediable, noted that her left leg appeared to be a bit shorter and commented that there could be an issue with her hips (as that often accompanies this) but he was upbeat about her prospects overall and said that the Ponsetti Method (for realigning a club foot) specialist would be by to see her and he had to defer to his superior knowledge.

Nicole and I spent most of the day with Arrowen taking turns holding her and there were a couple of attempts at boob feeding which got progressively better though certainly not sufficient for her to go off the feeding tube. I should note that Nicole handled all the boob feeding, we did not take turns on that. Unfortunately every few hours we had to relinquish her back to the nurses to be returned to the incubator for a feeding, which consists of pouring formula and/or what Nicole has pumped into a syringe hanging from the lid of the incubator. The syringe is attached to a narrow tube that ends in her belly. I've now seen this tube come in and out of her a few times, and it pisses her off, which is a good thing as far as I can tell as it shows she knows her own mind.

She is sharing her room with a couple other babies who are both a bit (one weeks, one a month) older than her, but no larger than her. If you are sending out any love/light/what have you, spare a thought for her little friends.

This day we both felt much better about her and her prospects, but also just got thoroughly wrapped up in love with her that all the tubes, beeping machines, and 'defects' stood no chance.
