Day by Day

Out of the Incubator

Nicole Aug 19, 2008

Well, she was taken out of the incubator this morning.  I think they believe Gregor can do a better job of keeping her toasty.  It is nice to have her in more open space.  It makes contact and interaction a lot easier and more comforting for all involved.

The nurse was just finishing up trying to bottle feed her when I arrived this morning.  She still struggles to swallow and it makes her quite tired.  At least the nurses are making an effort.  They have also gotten better about giving her my milk. (I work hard to keep the supply coming.) Though she does get some supplemental formula. But, hey it is staying down.

Arrowen has been gaining a little bit of weight these last few days.  I guess part of the reason for her not gaining much weight is that she tenses and flexes her muscles so tightly (called being spastic) that she is burning up a lot of energy.

The doctor is amazed her vitals are so stable.  She hasn't shown any distress recently.  Even when she is bottle fed and gets tired or frustrated, her heart and oxygen levels remain quite consistent.
